The Opportunity
The Wish Centre provides specialist support for women and children rebuilding their lives following experiences of domestic abuse.
Working together, People's Print delivered a series of creative printmaking workshops that offered participants the opportunity to pause, explore their creativity and enjoy time spent making something for themselves.
In an environment where many women have experienced significant challenges, the workshops created a welcoming space for self-expression, conversation and quiet moments of creativity, allowing participants to reconnect with their own ideas and imagination.
-
The Workshops
Across a series of sessions, women and children explored drawing, painting, printmaking and experimental mark-making using a variety of creative materials and techniques.
Rather than focusing on artistic ability, the workshops encouraged curiosity, playfulness and confidence. Participants experimented with colour, texture and pattern, discovering that there was no right or wrong way to create.
Alongside the creative process came opportunities to connect with others, share stories where appropriate and simply enjoy making together.
-
From Process to Pattern
The artwork created throughout the workshops became the starting point for a collection of original surface pattern designs.
Individual marks, painted textures and printed motifs were carefully developed into contemporary repeat patterns whilst preserving the character and individuality of the original artwork.
The resulting designs celebrate the creativity and resilience of the women and children who took part, transforming moments of making into lasting creative legacies.
-
The Outcome
Work in Progress!!
The finished designs are currently being developed into a collection of professionally manufactured homeware and textile products, including tea towels, wash bags and fabrics.
Each product celebrates the creativity of the participants whilst demonstrating how community-generated artwork can become beautifully designed, commercially viable products.
The project created not only meaningful creative experiences but also a lasting reminder of the value, talent and potential within every participant.
