Creativity Rooted in People and Place

  • The Opportunity

Strength in Struggles supports individuals experiencing mental health challenges and works to create safe spaces where people can connect, learn and grow.

Together, we explored how creativity could provide a meaningful opportunity for self-expression, confidence building and connection through a structured programme of printmaking workshops.

  • The Workshops

Over twelve weeks, participants explored a range of printmaking and mark-making techniques, experimenting with colour, texture and composition.

The workshops encouraged participants to focus on process rather than perfection, creating a welcoming environment where everyone could take part regardless of previous creative experience.

As confidence grew, so did the artwork, resulting in a rich collection of original marks and motifs.

  • From Process to Pattern

The artwork created during the workshops was carefully developed into a collection of professional surface pattern designs.

Rather than losing the character of the original artwork, the designs retained the individuality and energy of the participants' marks, ensuring their creative contribution remained visible throughout the final collection.

  • The Outcome

The finished designs were applied to a range of products including fabric, wash bags and tea towels, manufactured in the UK.

Sales generated through the collection created an additional income stream for the organisation whilst celebrating the creativity of everyone involved.
